One of the most prominent scientific schools of the Mamluk era, founded by Sultan Al-Zahir Baybars. It was a center for knowledge and Islamic jurisprudence and included a library with rare manuscripts.

Considered one of the oldest teaching hospitals in the world, founded by Nur al-Din Zengi. It served as a center for teaching medicine and medical sciences and provided free treatment.
